How to Set Up a Compost System
Knowing where to put your compost System is more a matter of personal convenience not to near your Garden and to far to get when needed,
Take an active approach, and commence gathering great mounds of leaves, branches, wood chips, manure kitchen waste, sawdust, straw, grass cuttings, old cardboard, newspaper, and plenty of soil worms, cover it up then let nature take its course,
You will end up with the close perfect fertilizer and soil enhancing compost material. You will then discover out for yourself why some people call homemade compost “A Gardeners Delight” )
Start making compost by combining brown materials carbon paper-boxes, dry leaves, straw sawdust and even ancient newspapers, green nitrogen materials in roughly equal proportions plant parts as well as grass cuttings from your lawn,
This combination of green and brown plus moisture provides Micro-organisms with the balanced diet they need to live and in the process, transform the dead plant parts into compost. ad red earth worms to break down organic matter. This will produce useful and beneficial compost.
Vegetable matter, waste from the kitchen, request neighbours to save you what waste they throw elsewhere if they don`t use it themselves, Show your appreciation by offering them vegetables for doing so ( Increase a little extra for this) you will be surprised with the help they sometimes offer, ( One Good turn for Another:?
After all it`s only a couple of extra seeds or Plug Plants, Also you might have Elderly Neighbours who can no longer manage to do any gardening, Think how much they’d appreciate this you never know they might have been Excellent gardeners that have won garden shows and maybe give you some helpful advice,
As there is always something new or old you can learn, Plus then the Elderly will not think of it being a handout but a reward for passing on information to, Then you’ll in will in later years be able to pass on your Knowledge to others, ( What goes around comes around? ),
This was one of the things that used to give me pleasure when one of my Elderly neighbours would be walking by and complementing me how well my vegetables were looking Good,
I would request that if they like take some to have with their dinner the pleasure on their faces plus a lot of advice I got from them was very beneficial, In knowing that I had give something away and enjoyed doing it even more so because of some of the advice I gained from doing so,
You may then in this way bring back a community benefit back into a neighbourhood that’s maybe has misplaced that Community Spirit, Help those around you, You may receive assist when you need it most. I indeed hope that I did even though it might have been me getting the most pleasure out of it, at the time I thought so.
If you have a large plot and you don`t mind a small work, You might too get extra waste from Schools, Market stalls, cafes, anywhere that food waste is thrown elsewhere some will gladly donate it to you Knowing it will be used for some good,
Remember to moisten the composting pile frequently and nature will take it from there.- Assume your compost will be cold if you just add tiny amounts of waste to it at a time. Only piles of sufficient mass and moisture that are composed of appropriate materials will permit for the explosion of micro-organisms population the result is top quality of compost material.
